Where to Stay in Korea

Neighborhoods compared, by travel style.

Where you stay shapes your whole trip. In Seoul the sights are spread across several districts, so a hotel near the right subway line can save an hour a day. In Busan the beaches, the old markets and the main train station are far enough apart that the choice matters even more.

We compare neighbourhoods by who they suit rather than by star ratings: first-time sightseers, nightlife lovers, shoppers, families and travellers who want a quieter, local feel. Each guide lists the subway lines, the trade-offs and the people who would be happier somewhere else.

If you are still undecided, start with the overview for your city, then read the detailed guide for the one or two areas that sound right.
