How the plan is worked out
We add your layover to your landing time to get your take-off. Then we take off two buffers: the time from landing to the transit tour desk on the 1st floor, and the time you want to be back at the airport before your flight. What's left is your time outside. Neither buffer is published by the airport, so both are assumptions you can change. The airport does say to reach your boarding gate 30–40 minutes before boarding time, and as a transit passenger you'll go through security and departure immigration again.
A tour fits if you can reach the desk 30 minutes before it starts (the airport's registration deadline) and it returns before your "back at the airport" time. We check each course's running days for every calendar day of your layover, so an overnight stop can show next-morning tours.
Who can join
- Layovers of 24 hours or less. The airport sets no minimum, but Asiana describes the tour as for 4–24 hours of connecting time.
- You must be able to enter Korea: a visa-free passport (with a K-ETA unless your nationality is exempt until 31 December 2026), or a visa or residency for the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or one of 32 European countries when flying to or from there. The airport also accepts other transit passengers who can pass immigration.
- Bring your passport and both boarding passes. You can enter Korea only once per visit.
Sources and limits
Courses, days, fees and desks come from Incheon Airport'stransit tour guide andcourse list; the gate rule from itsdeparture procedures. The Seoul estimate uses the AREX express (43 min from T1, 51 min from T2 to Seoul Station). If you miss the group's last meeting point, getting back is your responsibility. Landing late? Use Just Landed.
Questions people ask
Why does the planner say no tour fits when I have nine free hours?
Most courses leave the airport only at 09:00, 10:00, 14:00 or 15:00, and each runs on set weekdays. You also have to register at the 1st-floor desk 30 minutes before the start. If you land at noon on a day with no afternoon course, a long gap can still miss every departure. Try the next-day option if your layover runs overnight.
Where is the transit tour desk?
On the 1st floor, after immigration. In Terminal 1 it is near Gates 1 and 2 at counters 19–20; in Terminal 2 it is across from Exit 4 at counters 5–6. After immigration, follow the route down to the 1st floor rather than up to departures.
How much time should I leave to get back for my flight?
The airport doesn't publish a figure for transit passengers. It does ask departing passengers to reach the boarding gate 30–40 minutes before boarding time, and you will clear security and departure immigration again. We default to being back three hours before take-off; you can shorten it in the planner if you already hold your onward boarding pass and travel light.
Can I just go into Seoul by myself instead?
Yes, if you can enter Korea. The AREX express takes 43 minutes from Terminal 1 and 51 minutes from Terminal 2 to Seoul Station, so a round trip costs you about 1.5–2 hours of your free time. Remember you can enter Korea only once per visit.
